Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Aug-2023
Bright, even, pale yellow with a light green hue. The nose is enticing and full, with rambutan, lychee syrup, rose water, ginger and cardamom aromas. Full-bodied, off-dry to taste, rambutan, lychee syrup, and ginger form a concentrated core entwined with cardamom and water petals. The wine is smooth, opulent, and weighty, with spices enlivening the palate and balanced acidity, lending a voluminous, dry finish. This Gewurztraminer is abundant with concentrated flavour and palate weight, elegantly composed and layered. Match with yellow chicken curry and Muenster cheese over the next 6+ years. A blend of two clones, 456 (74%) and 1106 (26%), fermented in tank with a variety of different yeasts to 14% alc, 16.8 g/l RS, racked and aged on light lees for 6 months, best components selection. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Aug 2023 RRP $31.90
