Askerne Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 03-Dec-2014
Brilliant, even, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is fresh and tightly concentrated with pure white and yellow stonefruit aromas, expressed with soft elegance, unfolding nuances of herbs and florals. Medium-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is fresh with bright acidity enlivening the gently rich flavours of yellow stonefruits and honey. The fruit expression is restrained, but softly luscious, and the wine follows a near-unctuous, textured line. The wine flows smoothly to a long and sustained, dry finish with exotic floral and honeysuckle elements. This is a soft, medium-dry Pinot Gris with a stylish richness and a fresh, well-balanced, smooth mouthfeel. Serve with mildly spicy Asian fare over the next 3-4 years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Askerne’ vineyard and ‘Petane Station’ in Esk Valley, tank-fermented to 14.0% alc. and 11.35 g/L RS. 18.5/20 Dec 2014 RRP $22.00
