Askerne Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec 2015

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Jul-2016
Full, dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This is elegant and refined in presentation on the nose with well-concentrated aromas of ripe dark-red and black plums, fragrant redcurrants, unfolding nuances of dark herbs, blackcurrants and cassis. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours are rich and lush, and vibrant with sweetness, showing ripe and juicy dark plums, redcurrants, a little cassis and dark herbs. The extraction is supple and fine-featured forming a soft, smooth-flowing core, the fine tannins allowing the fruit sweetness to prevail. Background acidity enlivens the mouthfeel and the palate reveals oak toast and pencil shavings elements on the soft, long, lingering finish. This is a rich, lush and vibrant Merlot/Franc blend with flavours of dark plums, redcurrants and cassis with oak detail on a supple, refined palate. Match with roast lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 65% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, given a preferment soak of 4-7 days and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new oak including some American barrels. 18.0+/20 Jul 2016 RRP $22.00
