Askerne Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Jul-2016
Bright straw-yellow colour with light green-gold hues, lighter in the rim. The nose is very refreshing, taut and concentrated with aromas of ripe citrus and steely yellow stonefruits alongside subtly complexing layers of creamy, nutty barrel-ferment, oak toast and suggestions of lemon-curd MLF. Medium-bodied, the palate features ripe citrus and yellow stonefruit flavours melded with soft, creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes, and lemon-curd and buttery MLF. The mouthfeel is rich and luscious with oak and butterscotch, but balanced and enlivened by crisp, racy acidity. The wine is carried a very fine-textured line, leading to a harmoniously integrated finish with creamy and nutty oak and buttery elements. This is a rich and creamy, citrussy and stonefruited Chardonnay with crisp acidity, fine textures and enrichening buttery elements. Match with roast pork over the next 3-4 years. Clones Mendoza, 96, 15 and 6, from vines over 20 y.o., fully barrel-fermented, partially with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 28% new French oak with 100% MLF, but no batonnage. 18.0-/20 Jul 2016 RRP $22.00
