Askerne Cabernet Franc 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Aug-2023
Deep ruby-red with a purple shade, lighter on the rim. The nose is gentle and perfumed, with alluring aromas of cassis, blackberry and plum melded with spearmint, violet, blackcurrant leaf and tar. Full-bodied, cassis, blackberry and plum aromas are well-proportioned, entwined with violet, spearmint and blackcurrant leaf, then unveiling tar, spice and meaty hints. The wine fruit is concentrated with depth, finely-weaved tannins leaving a velvety mouthfeel; radiant acidity carries dark minerals and lends a sustained, elegant finish. This Cabernet France possesses an enticing, perfumed bouquet, flaunting generous fruit, herbs and minerals with velvety tannins and a pure expression. Match with veal chops and lamb koftas over the next 5+ years. Fermented in open-top tanks with inoculated yeast, hand plunged, post ferment maceration for 4 weeks, pressed and racked to French oak barriques, 25% new oak, 25% second filled. 14% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Aug 2023 RRP $29.90
