Ashwood Estate ‘Classic’ Gisborne Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 12-Jul-2015
Full, deep light golden-yellow colour with some blush hues, lighter on rim. The nose is fresh and voluminous with aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits along with citrus fruit nuanced by honeysuckle and exotic yellow florals. There is a fresh, steely and firm core to the aromatics. Medium-dry to medium in taste and with plenty of weight and body, the palate features lusciously ripe tropical fruits and yellow stonefruits enriched by honied notes. The mouthfeel is rounded and carried by some phenolic texture and structure, with fresh acidity lending liveliness and energy. Some alcoholic power adds to the drive and carries the wine to a dry, slightly textured, aromatic finish. This is an up-front, rich and lush medium-dry Pinot Gris with exotic fruit and honied flavours and some palate textures and weight. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3+ years. A blend of clones 42% GM 2/15, 25$ Barrie, 26 M2 and 7% 45, stainless-steel fermented to 13.5% alc. and 12.5 g/L RS with 65% of the wine undergoing full MLF. 17.5-/20 Jul 2015 RRP $12.99
