Ash Ridge ‘Vintner’s Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Sep-2016
Very dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues, lighter on the rim with purple hues. This is finely concentrated with tightly bound aromas of ripe blackberry fruit entwined with black mineral note and subtle reductive complexities, unfolding black and dark-red florals and spice elements. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours are rich and plush, and vibrant, showing ripe and lively flavours of blackberries entwined with black minerals and florals. The palate has a very finely concentrated core and line, the rich and spicy fruit flowing with drive and linearity. This has considerable extraction, the tannins very fine-grained and powdery. The wine carries to a long and elegant, fine-textured lingering finish of black fruits, florals spices and minerals. This is an elegant, vibrant, finely concentrated, fine-textured Syrah with great extract and finesse. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 7-10 years. 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier from the winery vineyard, fully destemmed and fermented to 13.0% alc., a portion of the wine on skins for 8 weeks, the wine aged 15 months in 20% new oak. 250 cases made. 18.5+/20 Sep 2016 RRP $50.00
