Ash Ridge ‘Premium Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2014

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Sep-2016
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. This has a well-concentrated nose of ripe blackberries and boysenberries entwined with layers of violet perfumes and a little minerally reduction. This is stylish in aromatic expression with richness and density. Medium-bodied, the palate features rich, plush and sweetly ripe fruit flavours of blackberries with subtle boysenberry notes, along with violet florals, revealing spices and minerals. The fruit sweetness is enlivened by soft, ripe acidity and the wine follows a fine-textured line that lends a supple mouthfeel. This has a rounded, concentrated core and the flavours carry seamlessly to a sustained finish with stylish, restrained flavours of black fruits, spices and minerals. This is a rich, plush, ripe, black-fruited Syrah with spice and floral notes and a supple, soft-textured, well-concentrated palate, revealing mineral nuances. Match with roasted and grilled game meat dishes over the next 6-7+ years. 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier from the winery vineyard, destemmed and fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged one year in approx. 15% new oak. 18.5/20 Sep 2016 RRP $31.00
