Ash Ridge ‘Premium Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Malbec 2015

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Sep-2016
Dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, near saturated with purple on the rim. Very youthful in appearance. This has an elegantly concentrated, intense and penetrating nose with very primary fruit of blackberries entwined with dark herbs, along with black plums and a subtle layer of spice. This is very fine in presentation. Medium-bodied and tightly concentrated, this has a richly sweet core of blackberry fruit intermingling with spice notes and herbal nuances. The fruit is vibrant and fresh, unfolding aromatic, black floral detail. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction, and reveals liquorice and black herb interest. The wine has good acid energy to lead the flavours to a lingering, elegantly concentrated, firm finish. This is a finely concentrated and firm Malbec with vibrant and sweet black fruits, along with spice and herb detail. Match with barbecued game meat dishes over the next 6+ years. Fruit from the Bridge Pa Triangle district, fermented to 12.7% alc., the wine aged one year in predominantly French oak, approx. 20% new, with some American oak. 18.0/20 Sep 2016 RRP $31.00
