Ash Ridge ‘Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2015

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Jun-2016
Very dark, black-hued purple-red colour, lighter on the edge, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly presented with ripe blackberry fruit entwined with black and white pepper notes and lifted violet florals. This has intensity and focus, and unfolds suggestions of game and reductive complexities. Medium-bodied, ripe, moderately sweet and rich blackberry fruit flavours are melded with black pepper and lifted by floral elements. The fruit sweetness is countered by fine-grained, drying tannins lending a dry-texture line and mouthfeel and mouthfilling structure. The acidity is integrated, but provides freshness and vitality as the wine carries to a long, dry finish with nuances of game and minerally reduction. This is an elegantly firm and concentrated Syrah with black and floral fruits and a textured mouthfeel. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 4-5 years. 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier, co-fermented to 12.6% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new oak. 17.0+/20 Jun 2016 RRP $20.00
