Ash Ridge ‘Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Jun-2016
Very dark, even, ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is well proportioned with tightly bound aromas of ripe, blackberry and black plum fruit aromas forming a concentrated core, unfolding subtle curranty elements The fruit is fresh and attractively primary in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a sweetly ripe core of black plum and blackberry fruits harmoniously integrated and interwoven. Soft, supple, but fine-grained tannins support the fruit core, allowing the fruit sweetness to prevail. The wine carries with good linearity, carrying to a taut, lingering finish of sweet, black plum and black berried fruit. This is a finely concentrated and proportioned Merlot with sweetly ripe black fruits and fine tannins. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 4-5 years. 96% Merlot with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new oak. 17.5/20 Jun 2016 RRP $20.00
