Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Whenua Matua’ vineyard, Upper Moutere, destemmed and given a cold soak, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. Moderately deep ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is full and even in volume with aromatic red berry fruit and floral notes growing to form a softly concentrated core. The nose unfolds cedar and spicy oak elements in the glass. Medium-bodied, flavours of sweet red berry fruits flow smoothly across the palate, revealing layers of cedary oak, earth and red florals. The fruit has an up-front juiciness, and the mouthfeel is easy and accessible with light, grainy textures emerging to carry the palate to a light, dry finish with light spiciness. This is a soft, accessible red-fruited Pinot Noir with spicy oak and floral interest. Serve with pasta, risotto and poultry over the next 3-4+ years. 17.0+/20 Nov 2014 RRP $27.95
