Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. This has a fresh, tight and taut nose with firmly concentrated aromas of white stonefruits and thirst-quenching mineral notes, unfolding subtle nuances of florals and herbs. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is restrained in flavour expression, showing white and yellow stonefruits entwined with delicate notes of florals, honeysuckle, herbs and minerals. The mouthfeel has good presence and is balanced by fine phenolic textures and gently refreshing acidity. This has vitality and energy, and grows in richness with a suggestion of unctuousness as it flows to a lingering, nuanced finish. This is a dry Pinot Gris with restrained flavours, but a balanced, lively and subtly rich mouthfeel. Serve with pasta, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Whenua Matua’ vineyard, hand-picked and transported to the Marlborough winery for cool-fermentation in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 5.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 weeks on lees. 17.5/20 Dec 2016 RRP $21.95
