Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The nose is fresh and elegant with tightly held aromas of pears with lifted white florals, along with subtle nuances of honeysuckle and minerally lees. The aromatics grow with aeration. Dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, aromatic fruit flavours of pears and white stonefruits are enriched by honeysuckle elements. The fruit has sweetness and fills the palate with presence and weight, the soft acidity adding to the roundness. The richness is balanced by phenolic textures and structure and the mouthfeel grainy in its flow as it carries to a fulsome, positive, sustained finish. This is a full, moderately rich, off-dry Pinot Gris with structure and presence. Match with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the ‘Whenua Matua’ vineyard, Upper Moutere, WBP and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. and 15.0 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 weeks on lees with batonnage. 17.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $21.95
