Aronui Nelson Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 10-Nov-2015
Nelson fruit hand-picked and WBP, and barrel-fermented, a small portion by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged approx. 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and MLF. Brilliant, light golden hued straw-yellow colour. This has a soft, full and gently concentrated nose of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit along with subtly integrated creamy barrel-ferment layers and light nutty detail. The oak grows in richness with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features flavours of ripe, yellow stonefruits along with tropical fruit and nutty notes, and creamy barrel-ferment elements harmoniously entwined with lemon-curd MLF and smoky hints. The fruit is initially restrained, but builds in depth, to show a good core with alcohol drive and some dry phenolic textures. The mouthfeel is balanced by fresh acidity and the wine carries to a sustained, dry finish. This is a restrained, well-layered Chardonnay with stonefruit and creamy oak, some underlying power and a dry finish. Match with roast pork over the next 3+ years. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $24.95
