Archangel Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 19-Oct-2015
Dark ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on the rim. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with a tight core of rich dark cherry and raspberry fruits integrated with subtle thyme herb notes, red florals, nuances of liquorice, spices and nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, lusciously juicy and bright fruit flavours of cherries, raspberries and plums are melded with spice notes, herbs and liquorice, showing richness and palate presence. The fruit is underlined by drying tannin extraction and structure that grows to fill the mouth. Soft acidity allows the texture to feature, and the tannins carry the wine to a moderately long finish of red fruits, herbs and spices. This is a juicy, dark-fruited Pinot Noir with soft, dry structure and mouthfeel. Match with wild duck and pork over the next 4-5 years. Clones 5, 113, 115, 777 and Abel, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 28% new French oak barriques. 2,500 cases made. 17.5+/20 Oct 2015 RRP $32.00
