Ara ‘Single Estate’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 03-Apr-2014
Very full, dark, deep purple-hued ruby-red colour, very youthful, paler on rim. The bouquet is moderately firm and focussed with deep aromas of dark raspberries, harmonious oak, and subtle mineral and reductive complexities, opening to fill the nose. Medium-full bodied, softly concentrated flavours of bright and lively raspberry fruit, dark plums and oak spices show with an attractive sweetness and succulence. This is up-front and enlivened by good acidity. A fine-grained textural line supports the fruit and carries the flavours to an elegant, long lingering, dry finish with raspberry liqueur notes. This is a bright and softly concentrated Pinot Noir with raspberries and spicy plum flavours and good fine structure. Match with poultry, pork, rabbit and lamb over the next 5+ years. Fruit destemmed and given a cold soak, and fermented with a high portion of whole berries to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 10-15 days on skins and aged 10 months in 10% new French oak barrels. 18.5-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $24.95
