Ara ‘Select Blocks’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 20-May-2013
Clones 115, 777, 667, 114, 5 and 6 from older vines , with a high portion of hand-harvested fruit, destemmed , given a cold soak and fermented with whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine given 25-20 days on skins and aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. Even, garnet-hued ruby-red colour with light bricking on edge. This has a soft, ethereal bouquet with aromas of soft red berry fruits and secondary development notes of dried herbs, undergrowth and bramble in the background. Layers of red liquorice, spices and herbs become revealed with air time. Medium-bodied, the palate subtly builds in weight and presence, with a core of ethereal red fruits, dried herbs, and cedary spices opening with richness and complexing detail. The palate is supported by fine-grained, firm tannins which emerge and lead to a restrained finish with moderately sustained flavours of savoury red fruits and dried herbs. Match with duck, pork and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. 18.0-/20 May 2013 RRP $29.95
