Ara ‘Select Block M62’ ‘Limited Release’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 11-May-2015
Moderately deep ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is softly concentrated with fragrant, ripe, dark red berry fruit and red plums, entwined with toasty oak, dark herbs and subtle reductive nuances. The aromatics are subtly detailed and seamlessly interwoven, somewhat restrained initially, but opening with aeration. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, a refined and tight core of black cherry and dark red berry fruit intermixed with liquorice, dark herbs, toasty oak and a touch of reduction is the feature on the palate. The fruit is underlined by fine-grained, flowery tannins forming a refined mouthfeel and structure. The wine flows with good energy and some acid tension, carrying through to a dry, fine-textured, lingering finish. This is an elegant and refined Pinot Noir with concentrated black fruits and subtle complexities. Match with pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 6-7+ years. Clone 115 fruit from the older ‘M62’ block, destemmed but not crushed, given a cold soak and skin contact, then fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. 18.5+/20 May 2015 RRP $44.95 From Block ‘M62’, with clone 115, the ‘Cabernet’ style, based on small berries and tight bunches, the wines fragrant and linear, showing fine tannins. Very full, black-red colour. The nose is tightly concentrated with aromas of ripe black fruits lifted with violet florals and enhanced with fresh, minerally layers. This has ‘puissance’ on palate, sinewy grip with lively mouthfeel and excellent concentration, along with vibrant acidity, lifting the black fruit and mineral flavours. The tannins are fine and firm. The wine has linearity and a very long, sustained finish with superb acid drive. 19.0/20May 2014 RRP $52.00
