Ara ‘Select Block K54’ ‘Limited Release’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 11-May-2015
Dark, deep, black-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. This has a full and firmly concentrated nose of ripe, dark red berry fruits intermixed with complexing, savoury dark herb, nutty oak and reductive elements. This builds in depth and volume in the glass. Medium-full bodied, deeply pack flavours of dark red and black berry fruits are entwined with black plum, toasty oak and minerally reductive layers. The fruit is supported by grainy tannin textures forming a strong structure around the powerful fruit. The fruit richness is enhanced by ripe, soft acidity and carries through to a textured, fruit-rich finish. This is a full, rich and structured Pinot Noir with black fruit and complex minerally, reductive notes. Match with slow cooked game meat dishes over the next 6-7 years. Clone 777 fruit from the older ‘K54’ block, destemmed but not crushed, given a cold soak and skin contact, then fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. 18.5/20 May 2015 RRP $44.95 From Block ‘K54’, with clone 777, with bright fruit, big, juicy and concentrated, the flavours ripe, plummy and sometimes raisiny, and good mid-palate material. Full, very deep, black-red colour. This is solidly packed on bouquet with ripe black fruits, and dark red plum elements, revealing iron-earth, black minerals and dark herbs. A fulsome, weighty and densely-concentrated palate is the feature, showing ripe black fruits, earth, mineral and a hint of tar. Rounded in mouthfeel, with soft acidity, the tannin extract is positive and integral, the fruit expression just a little restrained in lift and sweetness. The presence of this wine is a highlight. 18.0+/20 May 2014 RRP $552.00
