Aotea ‘Sweet Agnes’ Nelson Riesling 2010

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 14-Feb-2011
The ‘Aotea' brand has been introduced by Seifried Estate as an on-premise label for restaurants. It includes the ‘Sweet Agnes' wine that has proved very successful over previous vintages. Made from 100% Riesling fruit from 11 y.o. vines in the Brightwater vineyard highly shrivelled and dehydrated to 38° Brix, this was fermented to 10.5% alc. and 180 g/L rs. Bright light-golden yellow with a youthful pale edge to the colour, this has an immensely concentrated and dense nose of citrus, floral, honey and raisin aromas, lifted by a touch of volatility. Very sweet on palate, this is extremely luscious and richly textured, the flavours of citrus fruits, florals, marmalade and honey are pure and linear. Racy acidity precludes any broadness, leaving the finish with a real cut. This is a decadent wine that will match sweeter desserts, and will be perfect to sip as a low alcohol alternative to a liqueur at the end of a meal. It will develop more complex toast and caramel-like flavours over the next 3-5 years. (375 ml) 18.0+/20 Jan 2011 RRP – On-premise only
