Altacena Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo 2014

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 19-Nov-2015
90% Tempranillo and 5% each of Syrah and Garnacha from 25-35 y.o. bush vines from the commune of Manchuela in La Mancha, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 3 months in seasoned French and American oak. The blend includes 10% Rioja declassified due to volume constraints. Bright, vibrant, black-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose is gently full and moderately deep with fresh, primary fruit aromas of dark raspberries and jam, with confectionary-like whole berry fermentation notes forming a tight core with growing intensity. Subtle herbal and earthy detail emerges in the glass to add interest. Medium-full bodied, rich and sweet, juicy, primary fruit flavours of dark raspberries and blackberries show with plum jam and dark red floral elements. The mouthfeel has soft, grainy tannins that allow the fruit sweetness to show with plushness, and the wine flows with juicy, ripe, plum and jam flavours to a soft-textured, integrated, lingering finish. This is a plush, rich and juicy, oft-textured Tempranillo with ripe, sweet, dark raspberry fruit, and jam and floral lift. Serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern red meat dishes over the next 3+ years. 17.5+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $20.00
