Altacena Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo 2013

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 24-May-2015
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter edged, and youthful in appearance. The nose is full with moderately deep aromas of savoury dark red berry and plum fruit entwined with herbs and nuances of jam, and some game-like notes at the core. Medium-full bodied, up-front, juicy and plush fruit flavours of dark red berries and plums show with herbs, confectionary, pepper and game. The mouthfeel is lively and lush, the sweet fruit supported by grainy, dry tannin extraction and structure, lending a gutsy, textured mouthfeel. Some funky game elements are present and carry through to a sweet-fruited finish with grainy tannins. This is a full, sweet-fruited, gutsy country red. Serve with antipasto, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3+ years. 90% Tempranillo and 5% each of Syrah and Garnacha from 25 y.o. bush vines from the commune of Manchuela in La Mancha, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 3 months in seasoned French and American oak. The blend includes 10% Rioja declassified due to volume constraints. 16.5+/20 May 2015 RRP $17.99 Dark ruby-red colour with black hues. The nose is full with up-front aromas of dark red berry fruits entwined with earthy and savoury dried herb elements, revealing nuances of pepper and cedary oak. Medium-bodied, juicy and sweet red fruit flavours are melded with savoury dried herb and earth notes. The mouthfeel is harmoniously balanced with a rounded, positive core and supple tannin extraction. The acidity is soft and integrated, and the wine is quite accessible. As the wine flows, red floral, pepper and cedary, spicy oak hints emerge, leading to a light, savoury finish. This is a soft, supple, up-front and harmoniously balanced Tempranillo-based Spanish country red. Match with pasta, pizza and barbecued fare over the next 3 years. 90% Tempranillo and 5% each of Syrah and Garnacha from 25 y.o. bush vines from the commune of Manchuela in La Mancha, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 3 months in seasoned French and American oak.
