Alphonse Mellot ‘La Moussierre’ Sancerre 2010

Sauvignon Blanc from France - Loire
Review Date : 20-Sep-2012
Alphonse Mellot is one of the most highly-regarded vignerons in Sancerre. Fruit from the 47 ha ‘La Moussiere' site, 50% barrel-fermented in new oak, aged on lees 7-8 months. Very pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The bouquet is complex with layers of lantana, capsicums and minerals, quite intense and with depth, but tightly bound. Dry to taste, the very fine textures and balance are striking. Restrained minerally, nutty gooseberry fruit flavours show with a touch of nuttiness. The acidity is discreet and harmoniously balanced, all of the componentry beautifully integrated. This is all about finesse and subtlety. This will develop over the next 3-4+ years. 18.5/20 Sep 2012 RRP $58.95
