Alphonse Mellot Côtes de la Charité Les Pénitents Chardonnay 2017, Loire

Chardonnay from France - Loire
Review Date : 22-Nov-2022
Bright, even, pale yellow with depth and a green hue. The nose is full and elegantly presented, with aromas of citrus and stonefruit intertwined with floral and spice underlay. Medium-full bodied, aromas of nectarine, lemon and a suggestion of grapefruit, melded with apricot blossom, spice, grapefruit peels and minerals. Chalky minerals and refined phenolics texture the mouthfeel; lively acidity carries a touch of creaminess and ripe fruit through to an elegant, sustained finish. This Chardonnay features a chalky palate and ripe fruit with well-proportioned, elegant barrel details. Match with roasted guinea fowl and baked grouper over the next 8+ years. 100% Chardonnay fermented and aged 12 months in 1/3 wooden vats, 1/3 600-litre barrels and 1/3 concrete vats, 13% alc. Biodynamic certified. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Nov 2022 RRP $70
