Alpha Zeta ‘C’ Verona Corvina IGT 2014

Other Red from Italy - Veneto
Review Date : 06-Aug-2016
Dark, deep, black-hued red colour with garnet hues on the rim. This has a finely concentrated nose with a firm core of ripe black cherry and dark-red berry fruits, along with a harmonious layering of savoury, funky game, earth and mineral elements. With aeration, dark plum and liquorice nuances emerge. Medium-bodied, the palate features lively and vibrant dark-red berry and black cherry flavours entwined with savoury, funky earth and game notes. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with lacy acidity, and the wine follows a fine-grained tannin line with good energy. Flavours of liquorice and plum unfold and carry through to a dry, textural finish with game and suggestions of leather. This is a bright and lively Corvina with black cherry fruit, game notes and a fresh, fine-textured palate. Match with casseroles and game meat dishes over the next 4 years. 100% Corvina from Verona, hand-picked, destemmed, and fermented to 12.5% alc. in stainless-steel following draining 25% of the juice to increase the ratio of skins, the wine aged 6 months in oak. Winemaker: Matt Thomson. 16.5/20 Aug 2016 RRP $22.99
