Alpha Domus ‘The Wingwalker’ Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2012

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Feb-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with some green-gold hues. The bouquet is elegant and finely expressed with ripe and rounded aromas of apricots, citrus zest, exotic tropical fruits and savoury yellow stonefruits, along with oak elements that unfold in layers with harmony and detail Dry to taste, this is rich and stylishly proportioned with ethereal savoury apricot and exotic tropical fruit flavours harmoniously melded with citrus and musk forming a soft and rounded core. The fruit is up-front, and the mouthfeel follows a fine phenolic line with good acid tension and drive that leads to a light, gently dry finish with fruit and musky notes. This is an elegantly up-front, softly rich Viognier with savoury, musky fruit. Match with Asian and Mediterranean fare and white meats over the next 3-4 years. From 6 y.o. vines, a portion of the fruit given skin contact, the wine partially indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc. and 3 g/L RS, and aged in 20% new oak with batonnage. 17.5+/20 Feb 2014 RRP $29.95
