Alpha Domus ‘The Barnstormer’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 31-Jul-2014
100% Syrah destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak barriques. Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, near impenetrable. This has a full and voluminous nose with gently concentrated aromas of spicy black berry and plummy fruits, along with black pepper and harmoniously melded complexing sweet game and earthy notes. Medium-bodied, this is soft and integrated on palate with luscious black fruits, spices, pepper and earth, the layers of detail all smoothly interwoven. The mouthfeel is supple and fine with positive tannin structure underneath the fruit sweetness, the acidity quite soft and restrained. The palate has a concentrated, well-driven and seamless finish. This is a beautifully smooth-flowing, supple and harmonious Syrah to match poultry, pork, hare and beef dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5-/20 Feb 2014 RRP $32.00
