Allan Scott Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Aug-2016
Very dark, deep, black-red colour with purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. This has a softly full nose with moderately deep and intense aromas of sweetly ripe black plum and blackberry fruit with subtle notes of fresh herbs and cassis. The nose is harmonious in presentation. Medium-bodied, the palate is up-front and has a well-concentrated heart of sweet, ripe black plum and blackberry fruit along with nuances of redcurrants and cassis with nuances of lifted ref florals. The fruit is supported by light, grainy tannin extraction with balanced, refreshing acidity enlivening the fruit. The flavours are carried by the structure to a grainy textured finish with blackberry and cassis notes. This is an up-front, ripe, black plum and berry fruited Merlot with moderate and balanced tannin structure. Match with barbecued and roasted red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hawke’s Bay fruit fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged over 12 months in 25% new hogsheads. 17.0+/20 Aug 2016 RRP $18.00
