Sparkling Wine from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 30-Jan-2023
Bright, pale yellow, lighter on the rim. The beads are consistent and fine. This has an enticing, complex bouquet with aromas of citrus and stonefruit melded with equal parts of toffee apple, almond croissant, whole walnut and yeasty autolysis. Medium-full bodied, dry to taste, aromas of lemon, grapefruit and its peels intertwined stonefruit, caramelised apple, unfolding roasted almond, walnut and cream biscuit. The mouthfeel is opulent, with creamy mousse over chalky minerals. Nutty elements are emphasised as the wine opens, along with a fine precision of acidity to linearity. This charming Method Traditionnelle is elegant and refined with well-proportioned fruit, nutty and pastry elements on a textural palate and a long, complex finish. Match with crayfish rolls and white truffle risotto over the next 5+ years. 100% Chardonnay, 4 years on lees, zero dosage, estate bottled, 12.5% alc. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) Jan 2023 RRP $60
