Alexander ‘Dusty Road’ Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-May-2016
Even, deep purple-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has a full, well-concentrated nose of ripe dark-red and black-berried fruits with notes of black plums along with nuances of dark herbs and liquorice that build to form a firm core. Violet florals and some nutty oak elements emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features rich, sweet and lusciously vibrant flavours of ripe dark-red and black berried fruits, entwined with subtle dark herb and liquorice notes, and a little black floral and violet lift. The fruit is supported by good tannin grip and structure and the fruit is enlivened by lacy acidity. There is some underlying alcoholic power that carries the wine to a firm, dry and concentrated, lingering finish of black fruits. This is a rich, sweet, black-fruited Pinot Noir with plenty of structure and drive. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 6 years. Clones 5, 6, 113, 114, 115 and Abel, mostly from vines planted 1999/2000, with 15% from vines from 2004, 40% indigenous yeast fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine spending 24-25 days on skins and aged 11 months in 18% new French oak barrels. 565 cases made. 18.5-/20 May 2016 RRP $27.00
