Very full, black-red colour with lighter purple hues on the rim. The nose is concentrated with deep and firmly packed aromas of ripe black berry and black cherry fruit with dark raspberry and violet floral notes that unfold in the glass. Some liquorice, spice, mineral and nutty hints emerge, adding interest. Medium-full bodied, deep and concentrated flavours of ripe black cherry and black berried fruits form a good core. Aromatic violet florals, spices and nuances of oak lift the fruit. Fine-grained tannin extraction supports the fruit and provides an elegant, textured backbone. This has good drive with discreet, balanced acidity lending energy and carrying the wine to a long, lingering dry finish with flavours of violet florals, black cherries and spicy plums. This is a concentrated, fine-grained, black-fruited Pinot Noir with floral and spicy lift. Serve with pork, lamb, beef and venison over the next 6+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the home ‘Hinakura Road’ vineyard, clones 5, 6,115, 667, 777 and Abel, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 27 days on skins and aged 11 months in French oak with 20% equivalence, a portion aged in tank. 18.5/20 May 2015 RRP $25.00
