Alex Gambal Bourgogne ‘Cuvee Les Deux Papis’ 2009

Pinot Noir from France - Burgandy
Review Date : 01-Apr-2012
Alex Gambal came from the U.S. to work for broker Becky Wasserman then set up his own negociant concern in Beaune in 1998. Fruit for this from Pommard and Volnay. Dark, deep ruby-red with purple hues, lighter on rim. This has a full nose of ripe black cherry and berry fruits, still bright and primary, but marked by savoury game and brettanomyces. Medium-full-bodied, the fruit sweetness and freshness makes this initially quite lush, but the effects of brettanomyces with the savoury and funky farmyard flavours increases, and the palate shows an underlying firmness and line of tannic grip. While the fruit is bright and modern, the extract shows and the wine finishes a little firm and bitter. Drink in the next 3+ years. 16.0+/20 Mar 2012 RRP $49.00
