Alana Estate ‘Growers Series’ Martinborough Gruner Veltliner 2013

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 25-Dec-2013
Brilliant, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is moderately full, but a little shy in expression, with light aromas of herbs, white pepper and a minerally lift providing freshness. Dry to taste and medium full-bodied, the palate is solidly presented with a rounded core. The flavours of herbs, green stonefruits and white pepper are upfront, and supported by fresh, clean acidity and well-managed phenolic textures. This is mouthwatering and with good mouthfeel, the wine carried by the fine textures. The flavours gently recede and the palate leads to a very dry finish with subtle herbal nuances. This is a full and weighty Gruner Veltliner with up-front flavours and a fine drying mouthfeel. Serve with seafood and white meat courses over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked Martinborough fruit given skin contact and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc., the wine aged on lees with batonnage. 16.5/20 Dec 2013 RRP$29.00
