Alana Estate ‘Estate’ Martinborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 25-Dec-2013
Hand-picked fruit, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented on full solids in puncheons and barriques to 13.5% alc., the wine aged on lees and undergoing 30% MLF. Bright, even straw-yellow colour with some green hues. This has a firmly concentrated nose of white and yellow stonefruits infused with flinty reductive complexities, the bouquet solid and dense and decidedly funky. Medium full-bodied, the gunflint and mineral reduction complexities are the feature on the palate with restrained stonefruit flavours providing a degree of underlying richness. The mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh and brisk acidity, and the wine has drive supported by fine phenolic textures and some alcohol power. This flows with balance and harmony to a moderately long finish carried by the acidity. This is a full-bodied, flinty, funky Chardonnay with a lively mouthfeel. Match with firm-fleshed seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Dec 2013 RRP $39.00
