Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2020, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 30-Jan-2023
Moderately deep crimson with a slight tinge of garnet, even colour throughout. This has an enticing bouquet, elegantly lead with earth, cherry and plum aromas, along with cherry blossom, sweet spice and herb. Medium-full bodied, aromas of just ripe dark plums, red cherries entwined with minerals and earth, unfolding cherry blossom, dried hibiscus, oregano, cinnamon and clove. The wine has well-proportioned complexities, delicately floral with underlying strength and power. Smooth, fine tannins left a light dusting on the palate, and balanced tangy acidity lingers to linearity. This fine-structured, elegant Pinot Noir possesses dusty tannins; earthy mineral elements accompany balanced ripe fruit and fresh, tangy acidity. Match with lamb steak and smoked duck over the next 7+ years. Fruit from Mt Barker, Wanaka, 90% Abel clone, 7% clone 5 and 3% F Block Mix clones, fermented with 38% whole bunches, 13.6% alc, aged approx 10 months, 26% new French oak. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Jan 2023 RRP $65
