Akarua Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2020, Central Otago

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 28-Mar-2022
Deep ruby-red, lighter on the rim. The nose is rich and elegantly full, filled the glass with vanilla, cinnamon enriched by earth and game, underlying blackberries, cherries. Medium-full bodied, plush dark fruit of cherries and blackberries enriched by liquorice and gamey notes, along with toasty oak spices of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla. The fruit is supported by ripe, supple tannin extraction and enlivening acidity; shows concentration and balance with oak elements, reflects an opulent, rich closing. This dark-fruited Pinot Noir shows fine structure and elegance with spicy-oak interest. Match with roasted lamb and venison backstrap over the next 5+ years. Fruit from Cairnmuir (86%) and Felton Terraces Vineyard (14%), wild (85%) fermented to 14% alc, aged 11 months in French oak barriques, 27% new. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Mar 2022 RRP $45
