Akaroa Winery Pinot Gris 2019, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-Sep-2023
Bright, pale yellow amber, even colour throughout. This has a gentle bouquet filled with golden apple, quince, dried leaves and floral scents. Medium-bodied, golden apple and quince aromas melded with dried wildflower and subtle spice. The wine is dry with juicy, soft acidity. Fine textured phenolics contribute a chewy texture. Subtle spices elevate the finish with layers, lends a sustained finish. This savoury Pinot Gris shows flavours of orchard fruit, floral, spice details and a dried finish. Match with smoked warehou and pork rilette over the next 3 years. The fruit was cold soaked for 10 days, barrel fermented to 12.71% alc, aged in French oak for 10 months, underwent MLF. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Sep 2023 RRP $50
