Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Jun-2022
Bright, straw-yellow with depth and an amber hue, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is rich and savoury, with aromas of roasted cashew melded with dried pear and apple and dried floral elements. Full-bodied, dry to taste, mouth-filling aromas of roasted cashew lead the palate, alongside dried pear and apple, a hint of dried floral and five-spice. Brisk, balanced acidity and spice enhanced freshness. The creamy mouthfeel has an unctuousness to the texture, which flows smoothly and adds weight to a spiced finish. This creamy Pinot Gris shows dried apple and pear with nutty complexity and spice. Match with cashew chicken and pork & ginger dumplings now to 2023. 85% Pinot Gris, 15% Gewurztraminer, handpicked, destemmed, crushed and cold-soaked for 5 days, fermented and aged in French oak barrels to 14% alc, aged for 4 months, underwent MLF. 16+/20 pts (81 pts) June 2022 RRP $35
