Akaroa Winery Canterbury Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Mar-2012
Pinot Noir fruit from the ‘Takamatua Valley' vineyard with 40% contract grapes, fully destemmed and given a cold soak, then fermented with a portion of whole berries to 14.5% alc. The wine was aged 12 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Dark, deep ruby-red with youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. The full and open bouquet features dark cherry and berry fruits with perfumed floral notes along with savoury herbal nuances. Medium-bodied, this has soft, plush and juicy soft red fruit flavours with notes of herbs and new oak shine. This is gentle and supple, with modest tannin extraction, and balanced acidity adding to the fruit clarity. The wine is mellow and very accessible, and has moderate length on the finish. Match this soft, easy and juicy Pinot Noir with poultry and pasta dishes over the next 2+ years. 15.5+/20 Mar 2012 RRP $35.00
