Aitken’s Folly ‘Riverbank Road’ Central Otago Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 25-Mar-2014
Bright, even straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is tightly concentrated with aromas of citrus fruit and white stonefruits, revealing a little savoury and nutty secondary complexity, along with cooler herb nuances alongside wet-stone minerals. A mealy, oaky and flinty layer unfolds with aeration. Medium-full bodied, rich citrus fruit flavours backed by creamy barrel-ferment notes form an elegantly proportioned palate. Complexing oak, mineral and flinty detail is in support, and the mouthfeel is refreshing and lively from bright, crisp acidity. This has cut and tension, and the flavours are carried to a long, lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, fresh Chardonnay with subtle complexities and creaminess. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Clone 548 fruit barrel fermented by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 30% new French oak, undergoing batonnage. 18.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $26.00
