Abbey Cellars ‘Mary’ Hawke’s Bay Late Harvest Riesling 2012

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Dec-2013
Hand-picked Riesling fruit with approx. 50% affected by botrytis, and fermented in barrique to 10.0% alc. and 100 g/L RS. Dark golden orange colour with depth. The bouquet is very full and solidly presented with aromas of savoury, fully-ripened apricots and figs, melded with orange marmalade, honey and a mass of musky botrytis. Very sweet to taste, this is full and concentrated on palate with broad and weighty, mouthfilling flavours of ripe citrus fruits and apricots, marmalade and complex savoury botrytis. There is an unctuous flow enhanced by underlying slippery, racy acidity, with flavours of toffee and caramelised stonefruits fruits emerging and carrying through to a long, decadent finish. This is a full, weighty and decadent botrytis-affected dessert Riesling with broad, savoury and lusciously rich flavours. Match with caramel-flavoured desserts and puddings over the next 3+ years. 145 cases made. (375 ml) 16.5+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $22.00
