8 Ranges Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 12-Aug-2013
Clone 5, 115 and 667 fruit , hand-picked, destemmed and given a cold soak before fermentation to 13.72% alc., the wine spending 16 days on skins and aged 9 months in 33% new French oak barrels. Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour. The bouquet is tightly concentrated with firm, black cherry, herb and liquorice aromas along with some minerally, char-like reduction and oak. Medium-full bodied, concentrated flavours of black berry fruits and bitter cherries are entwined with spices, dark herbs and liquorice notes. A little reduction adds to the detail. The palate is powerfully driven and supported by fine-grained flowery tannins, with restrained acidity providing a softness to the textures. The flavours lead to a tight finish with light bitter cherry fruit elements. This is a tight and concentrated, fine-textured Pinot Noir with black cherry flavours. Match with roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. 17.5/20 Aug 2013 RRP $34.00
