Zonte’s Footstep is named after the site of the original 19th century Zante currant vineyard, where this new wave Australian wine producer is based, the ‘footstep’ referring to where new plantings follow the original footstep of the vines. The company and label is that of winemakers Ben Riggs and Zar Brooks who with a group of friends launched the label in 2003 to make modern wines showing variety and vineyard. The brand has quickly become highly regarded for the red wines, these supported by a selection of whites and rosé wines. Here, I review three Shiraz-based wines from the 2013 vintage. www.zontesfootstep.com.au They are distributed in New Zealand by Global Wines.
