Wrights of Gisborne and The Natural Wine Co.

Geoff and Nicola Wright are adding strength to the organic and biodynamic grapegrowing and winemaking scene in the Gisborne region. Establishing their business in 2000, they planted over 12 ha of vines in two sites, the ‘Terrace’ and the ‘Valley’ vineyards in the Ormond Valley and have worked to get their produce from these sites to AsureQuality organic certification. They’ve been growing too, setting up their winery in 2009 and just recently purchasing the former Whitecliffs vineyard in Manutuke, which they have started converting to organic status. The Wrights have also begun renovation work on their cellar door. It’s very good times here. Besides producing a broad range of wines under the Wrights label, they also have ‘The Natural Wine Co.’ brand which sources organic fruit outside Gisborne. Proceeds of the sales of these wines go toward the Royal Forest & Bird Society of New Zealand.
