Wooing Tree – Central Otago Pinot Noir Specialist

17-Oct-2011
Wooing Tree is an evocatively named Pinot Noir producer with a 26 ha site at Cromwell opposite ‘The Big Fruit Sculpture'. 16 ha are planted mainly to Pinot Noir clones 5, 6, 115, 667 and 777 around an 88 y.o. pine tree that was the place for lovers to meet. The owners Steve and Thea Farquharson and sister and brother-in-law Jane and Geoff Bews planted in 2002 with their first vintage in 2005. The wines are made at VinPro, originally with the talented Carol Bunn as winemaker, and from 2010 by the equally talented Peter Bartle who assumed the contract winery position. Wooing Tree has a reputation that has grown remarkably, and must be counted as one of the serious and significant producers in Central Otago. The variants of Pinot Noir style are being explored with a very interesting range of wines. I'm sure Steve Farquharson would say there's something he makes that would successfully woo you! www.wooingtree.co.nz
