Catherine Keith and her father Tony Rutherford established Mount Brown Estate wine growing venture in the Waipara Valley in 2002. With the resource of three vineyards, they have been making increasingly notable wines, with the ‘Grand Reserve’ tier particularly successful in wine shows and gaining critical acclaim from the critics. Owning mature vines and having the experienced Frank Manifold as the winemaker are other factors in the quality. Mount Brown Estate has ‘Wild River’ as its second label, these wines made from estate fruit, and they offer good value and easy drinking. Here, I review the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. www.mountbrown.co.nz
