Wild Earth ‘Earth and Sky’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010

01-Jun-2016
Quintin Quider established Wild Earth Wines when he purchased land in Lowburn and Bannockburn in 1998 and 1999 to plant Pinot Noir. The Wild Earth wines have been made by consultant winemakers, these being Matt Dicey, Dean Shaw, Michelle Richardson, Grant Taylor, Steve Davies and Peter Bartle. Jen Parr is now the winemaker. The wines have a strong similarity which Quintin attributes to the 10/5 clone fruit from Wild Earth’s Felton Road vineyard site. Last year, Quintin sold his vineyard interests but continues to make the Wild Earth range of wines, the Pinot Noir continuing to be sourced from the Bannockburn site. Quintin’s super-premium ‘Reserve’ wine, the ‘Earth and Sky’ was introduced with the 2009 vintage, and it received considerable critical acclaim. Here I review the 2010 vintage of the Wild Earth flagship. www.wildearthwines.co.nz
