The Wild Earth label of Quintin Quider was established when he purchased land and planted Pinot Noir in Bannockburn and Lowburn in 1998 and 1999. Quintin has contracted some of Central Otago’s best winemakers to make his wines, but despite the diversity, his Pinot Noir wines retain a remarkable similarity which he attributes to the 10/5 clone and site character in Felton Road. Quintin sold his vineyards, but continues to draw fruit from them to make his wines, the range including rosé and whites, which are commercialised very successfully through his cellar door, restaurant and catering company. Here, I review the 2014 Pinot Noir, a new 2014 ‘Special Edition’ Pinot Noir, and 2012 ‘Earth and Sky’ Pinot Noir flagship, the wines made by Pete Bartle. www.wildearthwines.co.nz
