Whistling Buoy Canterbury 2015 Rosé and 2014 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

06-Nov-2015
Whistling Buoy is the wine brand of the Pattinson family of The Crater Rim Winery, based in Charteris Bay with vineyards in Lyttelton Harbour, Banks Peninsula. The Pattinsons point out there is no connection with The Crater Rim winery based in Waipara, and that due to their geographical and geological location, they are the true Crater Rim! The Pattinsons have two vineyards: the ‘Half Acre Block’ established as an indicator site in 2000, with 0.2 ha of Pinot Noir. Their ‘Kokolo’ vineyard at Teddington, at the head of Lyttelton Harbour was established in 2003, and there are 4 ha of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This site was acquired by the Pattinsons in 2012.

Neil and Jill Pattinson are hands-on with the vineyard and winery business, with son Chris as a winemaker. The viticulture is overseen by Cliff Woods and the wines made by Dom Maxwell and Gavin Tait at the Greystone/Muddy Water facility. Here, I review the new 2015 Pinot Noir Rosé, and 2014 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. www.whistlingbuoy.co.nz
